How to Reach Chitrakoot
By Train: The nearest railhead is at a distance of 11 km Chitrakoot Dham Karwi Railway Station on the Jhansi-Manikpur mainline.
By Air: If you are planning to reach Chitrakoot via air, the nearest airport is located at the distance of 170 km in Khajuraho. From there, it takes three and a half hours to reach Chitrakoot. Another option is to take flight for Varanasi, located at 270 km or Jabalpur which is located at 300 km.
By Road: One can board private buses or state government buses from cities like Allahabad, Satna, Banda, Panna, and more to reach Chitrakoot.
Best Time to Visit Chitrakoot:
The best time to visit Chitrakoot is during the monsoon season as the weather is pleasant i.e, from July to October. From the months from March to June, the city becomes extremely hot with temperature as maximum as 45 degrees C.
Places to visit in Chitrakoot
Ramghat: Ramghat is a place where Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman took shelter and appeared in front of Tulsidas during exile. It is a long stretch made on the bank of Mandakini River. Also, famous poet Tulsidas used to sit on the riverside platform known as Tulsi Chabutra, a place where Tulsidas used to write Ram Charit Manas. It is one of the must visit place in Chitrakoot where tourist can see holy men in saffron cloth, chanting and meditating, attend evening Arti, and take a holy dip in the flowing river.
Kamadgiri: Surrounded my multiple temples, it is a forested hill and is considered to be the heart of Chitrakoot. Kamadgiri is a name derived from Kamadnath which is another name of Lord Rama. It is believed that it is a place where Lord Brahma performed havan before creating the universe. The special thing about this mountain is its shape; it is a bow-shaped mountain, hollow from inside with a vast lake. It is said to have four-door, where Pramukh Dwar is a shrine now and others comprise of large gates.
Gupt Godavari: A pair of large caves with a tiny entrance is another famous attraction in Chitrakoot which must be visited by everyone going there. It is located at a distance of 19 k from Ramghat. According to the legend, the river Godavari developing as an endless stream from the stones somewhere inside the caves and streams down to another cave underneath and afterward disappears. Also, it is believed that Lord Rama with Laxmana held a secret meeting in this cave. Travelers can find it mystically beautiful and witness the beautiful carves sculptures of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva at the entrance. Marpha: Located at just 4 km from Gupt Godavari is known for its natural beauty, ruins of Chandel Fort, and temples.
Hanuman Dhara: Located in one of the wooded hills at a distance of about 5 km from Ramghat, it is a shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Hanuman Dhara is the spring sprouted from a rock to cool the extreme anger of Lord Hanuman when he came here with tail on fire.
